7 1/2 years ago we relocated our family from my native Northwest United States home to the rich and colorful country of South Africa. This is the birthplace of my husband, though he had been out of the country for 25 years. Though it wasn't completely foreign to me, moving here, and settling in has proved to be more challenging, and even more rewarding than I had first thought possible. Through the years, on the advice of a very dear friend, I have have kept a sporadic journal of some of my thoughts and experiences while living here. My biggest fear..and one that occasionally catches me drifting off...is that this amazing journey will one day become ordinary due to my being familiar with it. The wonder of first experience - whether it is sights and smells or adventures and misadventures - is often replaced with the complacency brought by repetition. Let it not be for me! So, by keeping this journal, may I bookmark those amazing experiences, so that one day I (and perhaps even you) can look at them and see what marvelous things God has done!
I have always thought of life as a journey, and feel so blessed to have had such a great one. I grew up a small town country girl and have found myself living abroad and traveling more than I had every dreamt. I am a 40-something mom of 4 amazing kids (and one awesome son in law), wife for 25 years to my best friend, and business woman for the last 5 years. My life has been coloured by some fantastic experiences-some fun, some not so fun - but not one of them regretted.
